Finding a solution to benefit underwater welding.

Hi everyone, I am a student doing an industrial design thesis on underwater welding. In the end, I will propose a solution with a conceptual model of what the future of underwater welding may be. I love to hear what your thoughts are on my findings.Underwater welders are in demand. However the condition of welding and underwater environment adds great risk.Wet welders are exposed to gas explosion. Reason being the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen.Diver's are exposed to the unpredictable nature in open water. Visibility can be compromised.Fatigue caused by ocean current. Weight and equipment added encumbers the diver.Finally decompression sickness, where moving underwater at a controlled ascension speed is the current solution to minimize decompression sickness.I want to optimize the safety in underwater welding, reducing any risk and health impacts on underwater welders.

Reply:Are you now a certified underwater welder, or a student of this specialized field? I would think you need to learn as much as you can about it before you start trying to come up with any new solutions to the problems encountered with this type of welding. There may be things that have been tried and rejected, that you may think of, that still won't work.

Reply:the double pole knife switch is the most important part, diver calls for "make hot" after contacting the electrode to the prepared work, the drag texchnique is employed,dive calls for "make cold" before the electrode is fully consumed or the pass has ended. never have a hot lead without elecrode contacted to work, never get between the ground and the electrode..don't work with amaturesface all times with a positive mental attitude,then and only then will you have done your best.
