My welding area at home is pretty small, so I want to optimize space as much as possible. Would there be any issue with combing a welding cart intro a welding table? Any problem with the welder or Co2 bottom sitting on the same cart that my ground is attached to and I current is passing through?ThanksThe Veloz GroupSmith & Walker Tools

Reply:Only down side is grinding dust if you do a lot of grinding on the table. Try and set it up so the machine is covered well, but still has good airflow to stay cool. Also make sure the cylinder is protected from things that might get knocked off the top and land on the lines or valve by accident. Keep in mind CO2 needs to stay mostly upright so the gas can boil off and reach the valve. 75/25 cylinders can lay flat on their sides to minimize space with no problems..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Depending on how you build it, one negative would be not being able to get up close in a seated position (like a kitchen table). I combined both my plasma and Mig on one cart so it was too high to go that route. Was thinking about doing it with my Tig but liked the idea of it being stationary and went with a 25' torch lead instead. Still need to build a real table myself. Using an old scrap piece of steel at the moment. The other thing to thing about is if your doing any cutting. You dont want all that heat, splatter, and smoke close to your machines. I am buidling a welding table/cutting table combo instead.Hobart Handler 210 with SpoolgunHypertherm PM30 PlasmaHTP 221 Tig WelderHF BandsawHF Auto Dark Helmet
Reply:Glad to here that there shouldn't be any issues with the welder or tank being in contact with the table. In regards to cutting thats a good point that I hadn't really thought about. I'll have to build an cover around the cutting end of the cart so my welders don't get too many sparks. The Veloz GroupSmith & Walker Tools
Reply:just a suggestion try to incorporate slide-outs for your welders in order to service them ie. change wire spools ,bottles etc. or mount your bottle on the side of the bench /cart or back so it can easily be changed out  . don't forget a mount for a vise . what i did on my workbench i built was made a slide out that would extend the bench top out to have more working surface you could do that on all three sides if you wanted to and also leveling feet so you can have some stability when you move to different places in your garage and put GOOD casters on and DO NOT weld them on ! also don't forget to have drawers of some kind in it i used hang on side tool boxes they are tall and skinny and have allot of drawer space and doesn't take up allot of room  " i have a small garage also so i have been down your road ." don't forget to leave room for machines you plan to get in the future if you plan to do so . sit down and make a good plan draw up some good prints and look at plenty of welding carts these fine gentleman have made you will get all kinds of good ideas  . there are no rules to this game and remember do this to make thing easy on your self in the future ! this is the fun part of all of this the designing and building things that work for you . good luck let us know what you come up with . chris P.S. don't foget the pics !!! happy holidays.....
Reply:Just don't accidentally strike an arc on a bottle that's electrically connected (touching) metal that your work clamp is attached to or it's k-BOOM!
Reply:If the bottle is 1 foot to the right of where I'm welding but electronically connected in that it is stored on the CSRT, is that any kind of risk? This is mostly straight co2 and sometimes argonThe Veloz GroupSmith & Walker Tools
