I have a chance to buy what appears to be an older model of a Sync 180 sd. I'm guessing it is around year 2000 because the amperage control is on upper left of panel vs the later models having it more in the center. Additionally, there is no AC balance/dig control on this one. Looking at OM's from 2003, this feature has been added. I've only talked to owner over the phone and seen some pics which show a relatively well kept machine.Questions:Is the lack of AC balance control much of a deal? Also, looking at manual from 2000, the draw on AC tig at 150 amps is shown as 67 amps.Later manuals show a draw of 54 amps at same setting. Is there that much of a difference in this machine between variation?I've had my Maxstar for about 3 years and like it. This seems to be an ok deal but I'm not sure I'm gonna pull the trigger.Any thoughts?
Reply:Guy is asking a grand including torch, stinger, pedal, regulator etc. Ive always thought the 180 would fit in my home shop well. Im thinking the older model wrt to the higher draw might be pushing what I can supply power wise. Price wise it is in line with previous offerings I have seen in my area. Im kinda leaning toward passing tho.Ill try to post some pics later as Im mobile on the droid now. |
