What brands do you guys buy? Have you had better luck buying a few quality ones for the price or a whole bunch of cheap ones for the price? I tend to go through cut off wheels like it's going outta style and it's getting real old. And yes I have a plasma and torches, but they aren't the tool for the job all the time.
Reply:I use Metabo 6" slicers  the most ,they hold up pretty well ,it just takes a light touch, but it is the nature of the beast that they wear out.I use Sait for most of the other wheels . I have found that the cheap brands are not bonded together as well . the better brands are not always cost that much more than the junk ones .(the junk is used as a high volume high profit generater). Also using a masonary wheel on steel just makes a lot of dust  and the wheel wears down fast.  gxbxc
Reply:I never had an issue with disappearing cutoff wheels no mater the brand. If you get into them yes they will disappear. Sent from my SCH-I545 using TapatalkCRIME SCENES, COURT DATES, FUNERALS, RIDING THROUGH THE CITY WITH A BITCH THAT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL IT'S JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL.
Reply:I've had good luck with Camel brand cut off wheels. I like their flap discs very well also. Their .045 wheels seem to hold up better than the cheaper ones when cutting welds out to separate panels. From my discoveries "Keen", or "Mercer" branded cutoff wheels are like a lot of Chevy trucks where on a quiet day you can hear them disintegrate back to their natural state without doing anything......SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:I used several different brands for years, mostly through the LWS.  About a year ago someone recommended "lehigh valley abrasives" to me.  The prices are much better then I was getting locally, and the products that I have used from them (flap discs, cut off discs and grinding discs) have been at least as good in quality.
Reply:SAIT makes about the best grinding wheels out there.  My favorite is the A-24N soft bind wheel http://www.amazon.com/SAIT-20078-Dep...rinding+wheelsSofter wheel makes for very fast grinding.  May wear out sooner, but grinds in half the time.  If you like leaning on a grinder all day long...by all means, buy the hard wheels.  If you like to get something done before you're eligible for Medicare   Try a soft wheel."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I also use the metabo 6" slicers.  For grinding the norton geminis are pretty good but pretty expensive and I'm sure not the best.  IIRC they are about 3 times the price of their next lower line but not 3 times as good.I usually buy the blank discs vs. The threaded ones.
Reply:I was doing a job once where I had to get all contorted in between chain runs at a planer mill. The job was to cut off come sharp corners left on the end of the chain runs  slice what was there to bend it over and make a chute. I was using klingspor (sp?) and was using 2 1/2 wheels per run with 12 to do. I did 5 of these and by that time I ran out of wheels and found the walter brand zipcuts, I used one wheel 5" wheel on the rest of the 7 remaining runs and I still had lots of disk left. SO if I know I have lots of cutting to do ill keep a stack of walters in supply, but for the most part ill load up on cheap princess auto disks cause I don't feel upset when I accidently break of thoseNothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Norton Bluefire for cutting discs, flexovit for hard wheels for aluminum and steel, Walther for flap wheels. Worst hard wheels I ever used were the red sait wheels , cut fast for a short while then vibrate so bad you would think they will explode. I have also had good luck with masterforce hard wheels from Menard's.
Reply:Lehighvalleyabrasives , the best prices."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
