. . . only this time it's a pipe plug in the head of an SA200 F-163 head. Customer wanted a set of Murphy Switchgauges installed and after breaking a 1/2" drive-to-3/8" drive adapter in a 3/8" Allen socket attempting to remove the plug, it was time to employ the tried and true "welded on nut" extraction process. Had the media blaster out so I used it to prep (clean out) the plug for the weld. Could have easily just drilled it out a bit larger.Hex pocket welded full and nut welded on. MM200 provided the welding set on 3 High and ~42 on the WFS for the .030" wire bordering on globular transfer.Nut/plug combo following extraction. In spite of the fact the plug refused to budge with a 24" breaker bar, I likely could have turned the plug/nut out with a pair of channel locks following the welding due to the resulting shrinkage. Removal was effortless with an 1-1/16" wrench on the 5/8-11 heavy hex nut.Adapter and capillary tube in place.Water temperature and oil pressure gauges installed. Thanks for looking.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Good job as usual. Did one like that last week on a milling machine at the quarry. Came right out with the channel locks I used to hold the nut up for welding.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:Nice work as always Duane. Someday I would like to put some guages on my Commander, engine temp, oil p.s.i., and volts. I have to find where the correct ports are on a Deutz. Any idea?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Thanks guys.Sticky, I'll have to dig out my Deutz books and see. On the engine temp gauge you have two choices - cylinder head temp or oil temp. Oil temp is a "faster" indicator of internal mechanical failure and head temp of a broken cooling air fan belt or restricted air flow. The machine manual shows Lincoln choosing the oil temperature (K1639-1 option) over head temp which would be my choice.PM me you email. Not sure I have it.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:PM sent, Duane, thank you!I had bought a Deutz service manual for my IR tow behind, which is older than my Commander. Unfortunately, its translation from German to English, wasn't that great. So hopefully, yours will be better."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Nice repair.
Reply:Didn't budge with the 'regular' wrench, skip trying to 'finesse' it out and just break out the BigStuff and weld a big-ole-nut on it.Yup, that'll Git-Er-Done. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ... |
