i have a lead on an old miller 3 phase cv supply and wire feeder for dirt cheap . do the ancient feeders (10e, s54 ) have a different gun connector than the modern (post 1980's ) designs . if the plug is different , is it difficult to get / expensive to adapt?do modern miller mig guns connect with them ?what about parts for them ( contactors , drive wheels , etc) - available or not?i will be checking out a few machines - what are common pitfalls with the cp-250ts , 252ts ?is the 252ts more desirable than the 250ts? i will be welding mostly 1/8 - 3/8 structuralwith this machine . for critical stuff, we use a 1984 Lincoln Tig 250/250 - had it for 16 yrs, great machine !i have 600A / 3ph power , so no issues there ... i'm ready for 100% duty cycle !i suppose this is a lot of questions for my first post here , but i just found this forumand it certainly won't be my last .thanks.
Reply:I have a couple of miller feeders that are over 30 years old and functioning in full production daily. Getting parts, guns, drive wheels, consumables, its no problem.I have late model bernard guns with regular old style tweeco thread on tips on all of them.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:well, here it is . the miller cp 252ts plus a cobramatic push/pull setup .also brought home a miller wire feed . looks beat-to-**** , but the mechanics look ok. missing a drive roller ...and an mk cobra parts machine .all for $200. if neither of the junky feeders work properly , i'll buy a used one for a few hundred. i'll have to clean everything , assess the condition of everything , then try it out .it's going to be a bitch just getting this 400# beast out of my truck bed. Reply:finally unloladed the miller from the bed of my truck . machine was setup for 460 , so i fabbed up somecopper jumpers to make 230v . the machine powers up fine , the fan runs fulltime , the cobra gunworks , the s-60 miller feeder runs like a champ in jog , and the solenoid clicks in purge . nope, all the options on the side panel are still ....optional . not a single trimpot to be found yet. i haven't opened the case yet . i know it was setup w/ the MK aluminum push/pull gun w .045 wire, so i'll have to check the lugs on the inductors and such . it's good to know i have an 300A AL setup when i need it.the mk gun works ok , but is noisy and weighs a freakin' ton with all the separate cables in the bundle, and is held together largely with black tape.
Reply:looked up the serial # , and KG is a 1996 model . sweet. i was anticipating a 1980's machine . now i need a mig gun setup for steel for the s-60 . |
