Compressor Outside?

Hi all, new poster.I have an oil free air compressor that is way load. I've been thinking about sticking it outside in one of those plastic storage shelter thingys. What woud be the downsides to doing this? I live in Mid-Michigan and we get lots of snow, rain and humidity, I'm guessing all these would be bad on the electrical components (even if it is covered). Has anyone done something similar? or what else could I do (besides earplugs  )?Thanks - Jdawg
Reply:I worked at a machine shop that had 2 compressors outside in a little shack..Never any problems in 30 years that they were there..Just make sure to drain the water out every couple of days......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Or upgrade and get an oiled compressor. They aren't that much more expensive than a new oiless one. I got mine for 200 used. It was a 60 gallon Campbell Hausfeld built in 98'. Not bad considering how these things are tanks.But to help answer your inquiry, it's not a bad idea to put the compressor outside. If it's residential (gate community), than we might have issues, other than that, I'd say why not? Make sure it's well ventilated and that the power source isn't an extension cord. If it is an extension cord and more than50ft, buy 12gauge extension cords.
Reply:I ran one outside in Houston for several years, then in Colorado.  Never had any trouble.  You might think about rubber bumpers under the feet to keep from shaking the shed apart and/or making lots of racket.
