I'm going to a technical college next semester and they have a one semester program for production welding. it covers blueprint reading, intro to layout and fabrication, intro to SMAW and intro GMAW. Will it be possible to get a job with this? What kinda pay do you think i'll see? I'm only 20 and trying to get into the field as fast as possible.
Reply:Probably minimum wage.
Reply:Its a good way to see if you like the work and also will allow you to save up money and take upgrades. I am not sure where you are living but in many areas that is what welders do. When there is lots of work they are working flat out with overtime and whatever they can get. When things slow down and it is lay off time they go back to school and practice then test for high level tickets. Rinse and repeat.
Reply:Around here you start at $22/hour with those credentials. There's a huge demand here.
