Hello everyone so I recently got my Pipe Certification to AWS,ASME section IX, 6G Pipe GTAW & SMAW and also my AWS d1.1 3G and I recently started welding a year ago and I need tools. I just started working at a Chemical plant in Curtis Bay in Baltimore,MD tig welding stainless steel pipe and structural things but mostly pipe. I really have no tools I think I way behind and really need to catch up. I need some help and someone give me a list of things I would need appreciate it.
Reply:Don't you see what you and the others use every day?You should know what you need better than anyone.
Reply:I'm really the only welder other then the owner I just need a list to get started
Reply:It might be easier to tell us  what your employer will furnish and then go from there.
Reply:They furnish the basic but I want tools for my own because I will be putting a rig together soon
Reply:so, you wanna be a rig welder ??  Mobil weldin service ?  Anyway, clamps, grinders, pipe stands, some framing squares, portaband saw, chain vise tripod is one of my favorites , a few hammers, cords, and a halogen light. I like one of those 6' market umbrellas that fit in a pipe stand for those sunny days. Just about the same tools you would need in a shop.
Reply:Cool thanks

Reply:I've been buying tools since I was 12 yrs old, and like many on here, I don't think I'll ever own all the tools I need. Reply:Most of the tools you need will be dictated by the precise kind of work you do. Got into heavy structural stuff? Maybe a mag drill is in order! Doing much stainless sanitary welding? Dual regulators and purge gear could come handy! Pipe? Then pipe clamps. And so on... As soon as you go into power tools you will need a few as well. Die grinder, angle grinder (several probably), hand drill (corded or cordless it is up to you), tube sander, etc.
Reply:Don't go down that road.Tool addiction is a real disease!!!!I am here to testify that no amount of tools is enough if you get hooked.Pretty soon you will have to build more shop space, then more, and more space for more and more tools.AAAAGH!!!!!!!! Sorry, my demons got loose there for a minute.Last edited by Tool Junkie; 10-22-2014 at 07:05 PM.

Reply:I only want good tools. Can you really help? More, more, more!!!!

Reply:"I only want good tools. Can you really help? More, more, more!!!!"Yep. You have it bad, there is probably little hope for you.You will be condemned to a life of making and fixing stuff, just so you can justify that new tool to yourself, and your significant other(Here's a hint. You can get that tool fix easier, if you say you need it for some project of her's).
Reply:I suppose it's like other addictions. I hate it and would quit if I didn't enjoy it so much.
