I go to a vocational school where i am in a welding lab for 3 hours a day.I am ready to purchase a AD hood and thought some people with experience could give me some insight. I am currently looking at some expensive helmets such as the speedglas 9100x and the optrel e6800. I wanted to know if i am going over my head in purchasing a $300 helmet. Any suggestions or information would be much appreciated.

Reply:I have a bad attitude about welding hoods. I've had them fall off my head, and watch them sink to the bottom of the bay. Had people in the crew lay my hood in the path of crawler cranes. Do you know what a welding hood looks like when a 250-ton crawler crane runs over it? Reply:Optrel e684, done. Freakin sweet helmet. Can't wait to use mine more. The twilight and auto-adjusting shade level as you're welding are freakin awesome. To me, that is Great Helmet on a budget: HTP Striker CSV. Ultra clear, large viewing area, under $170.Last edited by Oscar; 10-25-2014 at 11:31 PM. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig!
