Reply:Great trailer repair... most guys wait until there is nothing left and then want it repaired. If a guy can ever come up with a trailer that won't rot out... he'd be a billionaire. Do your grain hoppers have a belt conveyor on them? What are you feeding?
Reply:I rebuilt a 28' gooseneck stock trailer for a friend one time.  After we sandblasted it, there wasn't much left of the bottom 6" of the sides or the crossmembers.  I cut pieces out and replaced for about a week.  Also changed the gooseneck hitch that the previous owner had attempted to weld solid.  It was a real mess, but I rebuilt it, and painted it.  That was about 16 years ago, and he's still using it.  The only thing we should have done different, is the previous owner had moved the axles forward to pull it with a half ton truck, and we should have moved them back to where they were supposed to be.  It didn't really pull bad, but my dually sits so high, that you had to pull it with the hitch slid all the way in, or the back would drag really easily.  And with it slid all the way in, it put the bottom of the the neck beams really close to the top of my pickup bed... I'd always take my tailgate off when I pulled it, so if I broke over a rise the neck wouldn't hit my tailgate, and one time I was in a turn coming over a rise, the neck caught the inside corner of my bed and really tweaked the bed.

Reply:Originally Posted by Bruce AvisonYeah, but you'd need to be a millionaire to afford a stainless stock trailer What do you guys use for tubing on something like that... 3/16" wall? That looks like a fairly solid repair, I'm thinking more and more of getting a rough shape trailer and fixing it up proper, people here want way too much for something in good shape.Bruce

Reply:Really?! Crazy. POR-15 has got to be some of the nastiest paints i've dealt with but I wouldn't doubt it would deteriorate over time with some of the things those trailers see.BTW, nice fix!Miller Dynasty 200Millermatic 211Instagram?.... find me @ WELD_MEDIC
