Has anyone built a spreader for wet lime?..or has plans or ideas..I would like to build one as the commercial units are mega bucks and i dont need to spread 100s of tons of lime..there is one company, I believe Rhino , that has a unit shown on youtube, that has a large agitator on the bottom, to chew and break up the clumpy lime to drop down and be spread..I would try and use this as a begining, but welcome anyones experience on success or failure to get more or better ideas... thanxs for any ideas..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:Stoltzfuss makes wet lime spreaders too. How much do you need to spread? Wet lime is so much more work than dry lime. If you don't need to spread 100s of tons, why not look into pelletized lime to use in a fertilizer spreader? It won't bridge like wet lime. There are also loads of custom lime spreaders out there. Reply:Look into a 3 point pendulum fertilizer spreader. The one I use has a small agitator in the hopper that could easily be modified to break up wet lime bridging. Do you have a spare truck or time to make a wheel base?http://www.tractorhouse.com/listings...x?OHID=7627373Lincoln Precision Tig 185Lincoln Power Mig 256Hypertherm PM 45Everlast 140STSmith O/A

Reply:Bob I have a piece of crap one laying around, if you are interested in it you can have it. the hopper is rotted at the bottom and I have new ss spinner blades for the spinner. It needs some tlc but it could be dr'd up fine for what you need it for. You can get a replacement plastic hopper from TS and start from there. I got a bran new one on clearance a few years back during the winter for like $300 and the bottom holes open tremendous on it. Anyway when I get there I will take pics for you and you could have it for nothing if your interested bud. Sound good! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:I don't know if this an option for you but when I lime my hayfields southern states will spread it for you for pretty cheap. We looked into buying a spreader but it was much cheaper to have them spread it for us. I know this doesn't help you build one but it may be a better option. Reply:We have all our lime custom spread as well. Dry lime only, $50/T spread. Can't really justify buying or building one with those prices.Lincoln Precision Tig 185Lincoln Power Mig 256Hypertherm PM 45Everlast 140STSmith O/A

Reply:I tried a fertilizer spread on the three point hitch of my tractor. It is the cyclone type that you see at the feed and seed stores. The first 5 minutes was great. the rest of the time it was awful trying to get the lime to move down to the slots which were wide open. I beat and beat with a ax handle on the spreader and the stuff just didnt want to come out. I think we finally paid the fellow from the co op about $28 a ton with the spreader truck. The three point hitch spread really needed some type of large agitator or thumber or something to keep the lime from packing. Richey sweet home alabama
Reply:Quicklime needs to be slaked or else your in a world of $hit. Basically a slurry spreader is a slaker on wheels, very expensive. There is no reason you cant make one, just a tank with a set of paddles on bearings to mix the lime with water.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I'm liking the salt spreader idea. Find a snow plowing guy and offer him a few bucks to spread your lime. I know of what plowing contractor in my area that offers ag lime spreading spring through fall, wet lime only.Lincoln Precision Tig 185Lincoln Power Mig 256Hypertherm PM 45Everlast 140STSmith O/A

Reply:I just call the co-op and they do the dirty work...lolI own a spray rig but it's for liquid fertilizer.

Reply:Ok Bob, ill get some pics to ya soon. Funny, I was just looking at it the other day thinking I wish I knew someone who can use this, shame just laying there. Cool!I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:Did you ever consider an in line spreader. Looking at them on Groundbusters website I feel one could be home built providing you could find a commercial one to get some ideas from.Although they would be slower than the spinner set up I believe they would be more accurate. |
