Ok guys Got this alloy Cover from some electric motor with a bit snapped off, Its one of a pair and i need it fixed, anyone have any idea if it can be done? The Good oneThe Broken OneEnd ViewBroken Bit ViewI'm not sure what welding method would be best as i've never repaired cast alloy before, would Tig work with this???As always your comments and ideas are gratefully acceptedGerry
Reply:Tig is your Huckleberry. I do my fair share of these repairs. 4043 filler would be my first choice depending how dirty the alloys may be. If it is clean I may choose 5356 for strength. Pull the rubber out. And be sure the casting is not magnesium.Last edited by shovelon; 01-24-2013 at 01:32 PM.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:"V" it on both sides then CLEAN the CRAP out of it..Hit it with the 4043..You may have to do it over a couple of times because the crap in the casting will float to the top..Grind off the crap after welding and do it again until you get a good clean bead then call it a day..And by the way...Where is the challenge in that???...zap!Last edited by zapster; 01-24-2013 at 04:22 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
