tailgate work bench.

Did this for a customer over the weekend.Took off fiberglass barnstyle doors.Wanted a tailgate /bench.Also did bumper had nothing.This is all on a dodge 2500. Attached Images

Reply:The weight of the bench is all the holds the arm to the bumper good point.You are not goint to hear that arm rattle over the cummins engine under the hood and the loud exhaust pipe.Going to mention to guy he may want to drill thru the angle on arm and tap/die the bumper and put a bolt with wing to tighten by hand thru bumper.
Reply:Is that bumper made from diamond plate closing a piece of channel?  Does it have a way to drain water when rain gets around the intermittent welds?

Reply:looks like the stiff arm support extends past the folcrom of the hinge and impacts the underside of the top preventing it from over extending and thus eliminating the need for a retainer at the bottom. as for the bumper, my guess is the bottom/back is open.There are no problems. Reply:Originally Posted by MondoI had to read this and go back and refer to the photos at least three times before my feeble mind could grasp what you are sayimg.   In the final analysis I agree with your most astute observation.  The support arm cannot swing downwards far enough for the table to drop.  What can happen is a severe bounce could cause the table and arm to swing upwards just enough such that if the time it takes for the arm to return to the down position is longer than it takes for the table to dop the support arm could slide across the top of the bumper causing the table to drop below horizontal.  Not likely in use, but a drive-off with the table in the horizontal position could lead to this.- Mondo
