I'm looking into buying a TIG/Stick welder, mainly to build steel and possibly aluminum bike frames, but also for general welding purposes.  I won't be welding anything thicker than .5" so I don't need too high an amperage.  Need AC/DC, possibly inverter type (ideally) so I can plug it into my house without flipping the breaker.  I'd like any suggestions that you have about a good welding machine.  My budget is around $2000-$2500 which limits me to "Lincoln - Invertec V205-T AC/DC TIG Pkg" for $3300, "Lincoln Precision TIG 225 Ready-Pak w/Cart" for $2000, or I've heard very good things about the "ThermalArc Arcmaster 185 ACDC TIG/Stick Pkg" for about $2000.  Miller seems to be much more expensive than other brands for similar features.  Thanks all...-Drew

Reply:Sorry for the lack of clarity.  I meant 1/4" penetration on both steel and aluminum.  That is max, I cannot guarantee that I'll even need to penetrate that deep, but would machines like the Lincoln 205 and 225 and the ThermalArc 185 have the power to achieve this without problems?
