Hi, can anyone tell me the best method / machine to cold cut 2" stainless tube, 2-3mm wall. I need a potable saw to take out on site, it's for some handrail work.Thanks.
Reply:as far as COLD cutting, it'd say rig up a cold-cut saw to your truck bed. possibly a portable band-saw would work too. all the SS that we cut at work is cut with a band saw with no coolant. sure it gets warm, but there is no discoloration from the little heat... if you are worried about colors, cut it howeveryou want, then go back over it all with a buffing pad on and angle grinder, or media-blast it all... you'll get discoloration from the welds anyway.Later,Andy
Reply:porter cable 1410 dry cut saw has good reviews on here

Reply:Originally Posted by RojodiabloPorter cable and Makita both make top notch porta bands. As to accuracy, it is a freehand tool; you can get excellent results with it, and you can get.... not so good results!! I use a porta band, and a sawzall both ectensively in railing and tower work. I am sure you can get the porta bands there in Oz, you just may have to look through tool catalogs vs. finding one on the shelf. Both these companies have service centers in Oz, look them up and they can point you in the right direction.

Reply:BrettI use a Milwaukee porta band a lot. If you had one you would probably like it.  They are terrible for precise miters.  Especially stuff with contours like cap rail.  The blade flexes and takes the easiest route. For square and round If you mark all the way around and go slowly you can do alright. They do sell tables for those saws.
