Well I had posted on my last thread. I'm wanting to become a pipeliner. I'm new to the welding world. And I want yalls opnion on how good my welds are. Tell me the goods and bads and you can be brutally honest. It won't hurt me because I want to get better. I know I'm not perfect, but I'm the best welder in my class. These are just pieces of scrap metal we had laying around and I welded them together with 6010 rods. Please let me know how good it is and what i can do better! Thanks!-Kyler Attached ImagesLife is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. -Confucius

Reply:I was just wondering if you're using a machine that has arc force. Looks like you're doing very little movement. Almost looks like your dragging the rod. Personally I like to see more pronounced ripples in 6010 welds. Reply:Once you learn some uphill welding, whipping or forming ripples becomes a way of life. I can't weld without doing some puddle manipulation now...
Reply:The best thing you can do is sign on and be a helper you'll make about 18 an hour if you work hard. You'll learn the ins and outs of the job and weather or not you really want to do it before you invest alot of money in a rig. 80 hours a week and no days off gets old after a little while but I got a lot of buddy's who love it. They all started as being a welders helper. It will give you a chance to learn the process and also things like tie ins, branches, beveling. You also have to learn how to grind and what to grind, you need to know the whole process. even if you weld great you can't just jump on a pipeline. You have to know what to tell your helper to do and if you haven't done it you won't know. Good luck with it bud!!Last edited by texasbest2006; 10-31-2014 at 11:51 PM.
