Build a Wire Feeder out of a Chicago Electric Flux Core Welder?

Would it be possible to mod a cheap Harbor Freight Chicago Electric into a wire feeder for a Miller Bobcat on CV? If it could work it would be great for occasional use or for me to just play around and learn flux cored wire welding with my old Miller Bobcat. The feeder would be run off of one of the bobcats 110 outlet while welding What do you guys think?Last edited by 98BobCat; 11-02-2014 at 06:03 PM.
Reply:Sounds like more trouble than it's worth to me. Why not just buy a used wire feeder to run off the BC? Something made for the purpose, rather than try to cobble together something that may or may not work. Unless your just a glutton for punishment. It might be possible, but is it really worth it?
Reply:Suggest one wire feeder that I can get for under $200 dollars used.  I would think that i can remove the large transformer from the welder and replace it with a smaller one then use a tweco style connector to connect the cv power from the bobcat to the output of the wirefeeder, then just have it set up to run the spool when the trigger on the gun is pulled.

Reply:Look for an older Miller S32P or Hobart Hefty. $200 would be on the really low side, but $400 is certainly doable. You'll have to search a bit to locate one in the lower price range, but I've seen them from time to time..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:At the beginning of the summer I'll search for those and try to buy one if the price is right.  If not I may go ahead and try to mod a Harbor Freight welder into a wire feeder... At the very least I'll have a project for the summer.
