"Crusty" Aluminum TIG welds

Hey guys! So, Ive got a slight issue with my aluminum TIG welds from time to time... They basically come out looking like whats in the attached picture. Im running about 25cfh of Argon, and a 3/32" 2% tho. Tungsten, with 1/8" 4043 wire on an outside corner joint, made from brand new 3/16" 4041. Any ideas?Thanks in advance, guys... Reply:You overheated the material. That's the silicon coming out of the 4043 filler causing that "sandy" look. Usually it comes from taking too long to form a puddle and using too low an amp setting..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:If you are talking about how grainy it is or the "dots" it's due to using 4043 filler. First pass is usually good and every other pass will have it. Due to the metal being pre heated and I think it has to do with the solidification rate. Reply:Backing off the heat is one way. Hauling asz and feeding the rod harder to chill the weld is another.
