Here is a job I sent out to another shop with a E.D.M. machine..Its a die for my brother..3/8 Hot Rolled plate..The wire size is only .013 in diameter..Pics..Looks like a drawing on the steel..Presto!Look at the finish on this..Untouched!..No slag No nothing and very smooth..Gotta have a start hole..1/8"..I like this! But I have never seen one in action..All C.N.C. by the way....013 groove..Very cool.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:The die is for fender parts for a '48 Ford F-5My Brother Ronald is into these trucks big time..Has a connection with Bruce Carpenter Reproductions..I have had other dies cut out for him and they were very succesful in reproducing replacement parts on these trucks..He will E-M me pics of his projects soon and I will post them here when I get them.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I get a lot of extrusion tooling made with wire EDM. The top and bottom wire guides can follow different paths to make tapers, etc. They can cut through 6-8" of hardened steel, some machines even more. The plate looks rusty because it's done underwater. BradLincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools
Reply:EDM = electrical discharge machine. Supe is correct it uses a high voltage on a very thin wire (ours were .010"). The wire comes on a spool and is continuously fed through the cut. If table speed is set correct thw wire will never touch the work but the proximity to the metal in the cut allows the arc discharge to erode the metal. They can be rather slow (metal thickness) but extremely accurate.Last edited by eburgblue; 12-02-2007 at 08:25 PM.
