Reply:Hi Gamble,I need to rent a basic stick machine. Even one of those AC gas drives will work fine with some 6011 rod. I also would like to rent an oxy-acet outfit and a chop saw. If push came to shove I could get by with a chop saw and angle grinder and use cutting disks in leui of the torch outfit. This if for putting up a steel cage lined with some expanded metal along the lines of the way a tool crib might be setup in a large machine shop. It will have two doors that swing in with inside only locks. Also thanks for the lead. I am waiting for a quote from them for this project. Thanks,TonyLast edited by therrera; 05-30-2013 at 05:15 PM.Reason: to add more detail

Reply:Hi All,I'm sorry to get back so late to your replies. I am not getting notifications that there are replies to my postings despite setting my preferences to "instant notification".I finished the job and it came out well. My client was very happy in addition to diving into working with iron for the first time. He said to give him a call when I'm in town as he wants to do more metal projects.I ended up renting the welder from Welding Industrial Supply Company at 2200 north Western in Chicago's north side. The rented us a Miller bobcat 225 for $175 a week which I thought was a great price. The iron came from Gordon Brothers and was not on the high end of the spectrum. Central Steel was very high in comparison. It could be their pricing brackets as I am not a high volume user. Gordon Brothers also delivered for a $50 fee. Not bad I thought.I have since picked up other work as well such as building a BBQ grill out of a 275 Gallon fuel oil tank, rebuilding a rusted out floor pan and frame on an old 60's vintage Camaro, and the latest one is welding on body panels on a 60's vintage VW bus that the client is restoring.I did a two week stint for a new shop welding out stair stringers for a field installation. That one was rough on me as we had to manually move a lot of iron around and I was definitely out of shape when it came to that kind of work, but oh well........I'll survive.I am still looking for work full or part time work should anyone have a lead out here in Chicago. Thanks for your leads,Tony
