I was wondering if anyone knows of a grip adapter (rubberized, maybe?) that could be put on a MIG or TIG gun that would give you more accurate control for side to side movements.Sort of like this but maybe with more pronounced ridges for each finger... something that improves on the plain straight handled design.
Reply:Keep in mind guns and torches get hot. That rules out "traditional" ideas like foam grips and tape. Molten foam rubber might not be a great idea.Wrapped leather might be an option or wire, sort of like they do with some custom knives. Also keep in mind feeling how hot the gun is getting is one of the things that helps you know when you are exceeding the duty cycle on the gun/torch. Wrap it up and you may hinder it's ability to disperse heat, lowering the duty cycle or preventing you from noticing when it's getting too hot..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:This handle for a MIG gun seems interesting.http://weldingdesign.com/equipment-a...ore-productivehttp://ergowelder.com/Last edited by CamW; 02-21-2013 at 02:35 AM.
Reply:I've been planning on building a custom pistol grip tig torch with a pistol type trigger, just never got around to it, I'm surprised no one makes anything like that...miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:At least for TIG, I've never seen anyone use the torch gripping the handle while they weld, with the exception of walking the cup on pipe.  Usually the handle is held like a pencil. So I could actually see the bulk of it getting in the way.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:my thoughts are more about being able to modulate the trigger without loosing the stability of the torch, trying to modulate the finger control while holding it like a pencil is where it gets a bit unstable, without the trigger factor then yeah, prolly adding more bulk and I wouldn't think it to be such a great idea by itself, miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
