Bender?

Will the type of bender I'm linking below bend oil field pipe like 2-3/8" or 2-7/8" or does it take something much more substantial? Reply:It should handle sch. 40 line pipe just fine. If you try to bend tubing (oil well) that is a lot tougher stuff, even J-55, and will probably do bad things to it.

Reply:I've seen the ebay one you linked to. It will bend fairly heavy pipe but the shoes wont fit what you want to bend. 2" is about the physical limit for width. You're biggest problem will be finding shoes to fit the pipe. You may have to have shoes custom made $$$. Here's a link to a project I'm working on. Seems to be able to bend anything, again your trouble will be the shoes. If you dont have much bending try looking up someone local who races and makes roll cages. Reply:The 16 ton is made to bend sch40 pipe up tp 3" ID. Pipe capacity: 1/2'', 3/4'', 1'', 1-1/2'', 2'', 2-1/2'', and 3'' pipesHF sells one. I have one from Homier. Got it for $75 it was missing the 2.5" die. I've bent a lot of 2" pipe (2-3/8"OD) with it. Reply:Oilfield line pipe is MILD steel. They only use stainless where it is really needed. Blast joints, highly corrosive chemicals, etc.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:I've bent some 2" SS Sch10 with success. Also some 2" boiler tubes that are not as thick as sch 40. It ripples a little on the inside of the bend but usually does not kink. The times I had a kinking problem were with the boiler tubes where there was serious corrosion/non-uniform walls. I am not familiar wiith oilfield pipe but the ODs mentioned seem to correspond with NPT 2" and 2.5" sizes. I guess someone just has to try it and see. Here is a gate I made from the 2" boiler tubes.
