Looking into a roller for bending flatstock, the hard way, on edge. Like for a radius stariwell. Has to handle 1 1/2" x 3/8". Anyone have one, use one, comments?Yeah, I've done a "search". Just looking for more info.thanks
Reply:I have two. A manual one- its called a Hossfeld bender. Over the years, I have bent a lot of flat bar the hard way with it. A base hossfeld costs $800, the angle iron flange out dieset with edge bending dies, which you need to bend the hard way, is probably another $800 or so- havent checked lately, I bought mine in 1979. This works just fine. Its slow, as you are pulling a tiny bit of bend at a time. Hossfeld makes standard fixed radius dies in 3" thru 48" (radius, not diameter) but in between sizes or larger sizes are possible by marking the metal, and pulling only on the marks. Then, I have a set of BPR power angle rolls. Made in Italy, sold in Alabama. Very high quality, well built, tough machines. Mine is a CP-40, which is rated up to 2" schedule 40 pipe- I find it to be a good size for a general fab shop- anything much bigger, I send out, but thats rare. It will bend your flat bar the hard way without a murmur. Recently I have been bending 1/4" x 4" Stainless flat bar the hard way- it can do that all day.Great customer service, knowledgeable service guy on the phone, parts in stock, custom rolls made to roll most anything. The machines themselves are very reliable and well engineered. Not cheap, but nothing good is.http://www.eaglebendingmachines.com/Similar machines available from a variety of other manufacturers. Most all are imported. The best are the Roundo's, from Sweden, but you pay for it- $20K and up, usually a LOT up. But they have 3 hydraulic motors, hydraulic remote control pinch, and are built to last forever- the resale value is phenomenal. Italian is good- Taurus, BPR, and the Hellers. Turkish is cheaper- almost always painted Blue and White. Here is mine in action- this is 1 1/4" forge textured stainless round bar-
Reply:Thanks for answering his question Ries as I have been looking at the very unit you have pictured. I always like to get others opinions on equipment they actually own before I purchase. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread...ht=ring+rollerThis will do 1/4X2" the hard way at 36" radius. I haven't had need to bend tighter or heavier. I built a spiral with it last summer.Last edited by tapwelder; 02-22-2008 at 09:53 PM.
Reply:Thanks for the answers. To be honest, as much as I'd like to re-invent the wheel, I'd prefer to buy a "ready to roll" unit. So, anyone else has a unit that works for them, let me know. Or- if anyone in South OC, Ca. wants to roll some parts for me, that'll do for now.thanks |
