Not sure  which one to get? I can get a Hobart 210MVP for about 715.00 plus tax or a Eastwood 175 for 519.00 plus tax. My brother says go bigger but I think 1/4 or 5/16 steel will work for me. I will be doing some auto stuff and maybe some trailer repair type things. I like the MVP because I feel it gives me options for use because of 110 and 240. Based on the price and use what opinions does anyone have? Thanks

Reply:Hobart without a doubt. You'll love that that 210mvp.It is a far better machine.Don't buy that longevity! you'll regret it!!Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:If you are going to do a lot of quarter inch stuff, I say neither. These machines are ever rated when it comes to the thickness they can weld in one pass. I doubt highly if the eastwood could do a quarter inch. The Hobart will, but you will run up against the duty cycle. If you are doing a lot of stuff in the 1/4-5/16 range, I would step up to the Hobart Ironman 230 which has a lot more muscle and higher duty cycle. Also, I don't think the MVP will do 1/4 inch on 110 volts. You will be quite limited on 110 volts...probably 1/8 inch truth be told.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:^^^^ true storyGravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Hobart 210MVP gets my vote. Of course the Iron man 230 is better but quite more expensive. I have the 210MVP and weld an array of items here on the farm for repairs, design and build plus hobby work. I agree if you have long runs on 1/4" or 5/16" (2 ft or so) you may run up against the duty cycle. I haven't yet but never say never. You will love the 210MVP but if you have the extra dough go for the Iron man 230 but you loose the 110V option. Good luck either Hobart is a winner.Fireman BillHH 210 MVPMM 211 Spoolmate 100Lotas LTP5000D PlasmaOxy/Accet (Victor)Wards AC/DC buzz box30 ton old hyd pressA few brand name toolsA bunch of cheap toolsA wife to worry me and4 dogs to supervise me
Reply:Thanks Guys! I am really going to do mostly auto rebuild stuff. I would do some things 1/4 but if I need anything extensive I would just go over too my bothers and use his bigger welder! I have an old trailer axle that I will use in the yard after cutting in half and re welding to make it narrower. I have some repair panels on some cars I'm restoring and maybe fix my bobcat bucket crack. The Hobart is already at the high end of what I am willing to spend especially since my brother lives close. I just didn't know if I should save a few bucks by getting the Eastwood 175.
Reply:That 210mvp will do everything you'll do, and more.Go for it.~JohnJust a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
Reply:Name/company reputation,  proven reliability, service & support, parts availability.....HOBART without a second thought.  The only thing an "Eastwood" is good for is making western movies.  . Their welders are just  Harbor Freight welders with different paint  schemes, in my humble opinion.  I'll agree to an extent with Louie1961 about the duty cycle that it may or may NOT be an issue for you.  At 30% for "normal" use on a 230/240 volt circuit, it  ain't too shabby to say the least.  However, I know for a fact that the 210 can do 1/4" steel on a 240v circuit in the hands of a knowledgable welder and within its duty cycle limitations,  all day long. My brother (former professional welder) used his 210 to build his own large engine hoist (cherry picker), using 1/4" steel  for pulling engines out of trucks.  Just sayn. Reply:Go with the Hobart.  Its a much better welder.
Reply:When powering it from a 230 volt input, the Handler 210 MVP is going to be the superior unit on 1/4" and thicker material. I doubt the average hobbyist is going have duty cycle issues with the Handler 210 MVP on 1/4". The 210 MVP is a good thin ga  sheet metal unit with an .023 wire and C25. If my primary need was for auto body sheet (assuming 20ga and thinner), out of the compact 230V units that I've ran, I 'd be very tempted to go with a Lincoln PowerMIG 180C. If you get it dialed in correctly the unit has an amazing low end arc with an .023 wire and C25. Power wise, the top end is going to be inferior to 210MVP for 1/4" and thicker applications.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
Reply:I just went through the same decision making process and I decided on the Hobart 210MVP.  I did so for the following reasons:1-The Hobart is Dual Powered, Yes I agree its ability is limited in 110V mode, but its there if you need it.2- The Hobart Is larger. 210 vs 1753- Hobart is made in the USA4- what happens if the Eastwood or any other cheap Chinese welder breaks or needs service? Read their warranty carefully.  Will you have to pay to ship it to and from them?  I copied this from the warranty section in the Eastwood 175 manual "FREIGHT COSTS: The purchaser is responsible for shipment to and from Eastwood."  That could get expensive!  After reading that I dropped the Eastwood from my list and focused on the Lincoln 180 (Dual and C), Miller 211 and the Hobart MVP .I know the Eastwood lookes good, is cheaper and even comes with a spool gun, but sometimes it's cheaper to pay more !Lastly, I just got my weldor and have not had a chance to even turn it on.  By the way I paid around $78O, after I bought it I saw I could buy a refurbished unit cheaper .  0h well, no regrets here.Good luck I hope this helped.
Reply:Everyone helped! I am going with the Hobart for the 715.00 plus tax. I do have some projects that would require the 1/4 inch ability along with the ability to use the 110 for doing the sheet metal work. Being able to consider using at remote sites without generator and the fact about American made helps! My brother has a 250 or bigger so I know if I get stuck I could just use his. Will get it tomm................................
