Since you guys liked Mrweld's project he did for a customer, I thought you might like to see one I built over the winter of 06. Looks like the two projects have some common parts. Mine was mostly made out of junk I had around. Here are some of the details of the build parts used:it was put together over the winter of 06. Originally it was a Schwinn Stingray bicycle, the one with the 4” wide back tire. To many trial and error procedures were completed to mention here, so here’s what worked:  The back bone was stretched along with the down tube with exhaust tube scraps from a local muffler shop. The chrome part of the front forks is original and the black portion was added on with tube from a local salvage yard, turned down to match the fork tube diameter. The bottom of the frame, where the engines mount, is 1” O.D. tube that is the pipe where the torsion springs on garage doors fit.The brake is a bicycle disc brake and it was purchased new.The engines are 3hp Tecumseh engines from Craftsman sidewalk edgers, one was mine, one from the son-in law.The clutch and a few other misc. items was on a trade from a guy in Maryland for which I rolled a large ring for him for a roller handle he was making. Met him on a welding forum. The exhaust is mostly 1” electrical conduit tube with the small bends from an old mower muffler. The metal seat pan is from the tire pans in a Yamaha shipping crate for 4 wheelers. The gas tank was made from sheet metal stripped off an old furnace door and the filler cap is the small screw in cap from a 50 gal. food barrel from the local salvage yard. The tires, wheels and rear fender are original to the bicycle.I take this to our local Bikes, Blues & BBQ each year and it gets a lot of attention, I think mostly because it’s just so much different than what you normally see at bike rally’s. Reply:alanhI built my first 'mini-chopper' in '68.  Plumbing pipe frame, Ox-Acet. welded, with a Cushman motor.I had more hp. power, and less structural integrity then any kid-welder should have had. Fabrication sucked, because my only influences were all Ox-Acet. farmer welders.   Hell  -  I was married before I discovered that Linclon Tombstone splatter-boxes even existed.alanh your  -  My bike project  -  is exceptional. The lines, proportion, and structural integration: of the frame, pipes, tank, saddle, forks, chain  . . . . . . . . appear stellar. The most difficult aesthetic on neo-whizzers, is always the motor;because so few vintage motors have survived, any old motor is pressed to serve.  Typically a lawn mower engine; Tecumseh,Briggs & Stratton, and Clinton are favorites.  Old 4-cycles are revered. For the Faux Factor:  pour through vintage motor cycle books and magazines for reference, so you can apply the same massage to the available donor motors, as you have applied to your frame, and you will be ahead of the pack.Opus

Reply:Thanks for the comments Guys, makes me feel good about doing the project.I'm going to add a few more pictures and comments. The first picture is the build jig. Everything was done in this jig to hold it all in place and on top of that garbage can, made it easy to spin around. Notice the engines backwards from the final build, the down tube cut out and extensions in fork tubes to approximate the final length.Next picture shows the exhaust tube welded in for extensions and engines. Big shock about the engines is that they run backwards the way I want them mounted. I went ahead with the idea I could find a way to reverse rotation to the back wheel.A shot of the brake assembly.Finished enough for a test ride, note the sleek gas tank. That was original to one of the engines. The first catastrophe, setting there in the shop running and the front engine output shaft & sprocket went zipping across the floor. Back to the drawing board.I welded a sprocket back on to the crankshaft end, but the final version connected the two engines with a serpentine belt around the flywheels. You'll notice the final front exhaust pipe was changed and goes over the location of the missing output shaft. Attached Images
Reply:I have to give some credit to this shop for saving junk bike parts that was part of this build. I also trade some work with a neighbor up the street that came down a while back and gave me the ultimate compliment "I think your garage is a bigger mess than mine".I've gotten his scooter running a couple of times when it had a little too much neglect and his kids bashed it into the side of a pickup, it drug on the street, a little bent in the middle. The bike rides great on a good surface street. It will run about 40 or so, and I don't feel very safe at that speed, 25 or 30 is much better, and if the street is rough, you don't go there. I don't trust the triple tree area to take much punishment.
