whats a cold saw anyway?
Reply:Google it, a picture is worth a thousand words... It's just a type of saw that has a carbide blade.Me!
Reply:A saw that has a metal blade , usually a Cobalt alloy .Runs a lot slower than a hot saw with an abrasive blade.Usually uses coolant to aid cutting and tip life .Look here[ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8828004535941410437[/ame]A good guess is better than a bad measurement
Reply:Heres mine.Made in Germany, weighs more than 500lbs.It has a 3 1/2hp 3 phase motor, and a gear reduction unit, so it spins at 44 rpm- so slow you can almost see the teeth go by.It has a recirculating pump that pumps a water based coolant on the blade all the time.It has a really heavy duty quick release vise that alone probably outweighs a Dewalt chop saw, so when you put a piece of steel in there, its held tight. And it can swivel on its base, to cut miters, very accurately. It is pretty quiet, makes no sparks, throws no grit. Its fast, and leaves a very accurate, square cut with almost no burr. The blades are resharpenable- if you dont drop em on the steel, they can last years. And, oh, yes- it is very expensive. I got mine used, for a grand, way back in about 1992- but a similar model, new, is at least $4000.And worth every penny, if you ask me- it cuts 2" solid square fast and clean, you can cut a hundred parts, and they are all, exactly the same.I couldnt live without mine.
Reply:Wheres the Red arrow saying "Mess to cleaned by person unknown at a time unknown" ?But seriously Ries seeing your one reminds me of my old Thomas (surprisingly a Italian made...... Thomas?) it was 44/22 rpm , 22 for stainless , nothing gives as true a cut as a high end cold saw .I sold mine and got a good Pommie band saw only for versatility due to the fact I didn't have room for both.Top bench!BrettA good guess is better than a bad measurement
Reply:Actually, Chris, who works for me, cleaned up that saw really well a couple of weeks ago. It looks much better now.And I do have 4 bandsaws too. But a cold saw has such authority. A bandsaw is kinda delicate, compared to it.

Reply:grizzly has one now for $950.00 thinking of getting it how long do the blades last on steel

Reply:is the base stamped or cast what do the blades cost and will they fit a chop saw
Reply:Standard chop saws run too fast for these types of blades. They'll fit but rpm is way too high. All the cold saws and dry saws run at greatly reduced speeds.Latest Toys Miller 180 Mig and Elite Mask!!Wright Welder 225ACShop OutFitters 20/20 Bending SystemHypertherm 380 Plasma30 Years of Sparking (Electrical & Welding)
