Sub $100 market, air driven. What is the best 1/2 impact wrench? Alternately will an electric have the power of air? Might consider those too. Many thanks.Daniel 5:23
Reply:My 1/2" corded elect. Dewalt has no guts compared to my 1/2 air wrench. Great for driving lags in wood decks and spinning of loosend lugs but not much else. I think my air one is a SnapOn, but i'm sure it was over $100. I'd compare the torque ratings thats what I did when I got mine. Went for the highest torque I could find since I wanted it for breaking loose 15+ year old rusted bolts on a job and the Dewalt just said NO.

Reply:I use only Ingersoll-rand.  However I will add that I'm not sure you are going to get a really good impact wrench for less than $100.  I keep an electric wrench on the truck, but it's nothing compared to a good air gun.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:You can get by with a cheapie, but if you get that one time you needed more torque-you'll wish you spent more money.Ingersoll aint cheap.
Reply:I R is the way to go beat the day lights of mine for 12 years it has never failed me by your talkin 300.00  I also have a 6500 snap on i got last year my I R will eat it up I all depends on what you want to take off or put on but remenber you get what you pay for I all so use a 3700 foot lb torque multiplier that i air powered that awsome . jay

Reply:Another good point!
Reply:CP (Chicago Pneumatic) is the hands down best. Do not confuse this with the Central Pneumatic crap!!  You'll spend more than $100 though.  Remember, more times than not, you get what you pay for.  The other side of that coin is; how often will I use it.  Only you can figure that one out.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:IMO there is no best 1\2" impact for less that $100.  Unless you by a CP or IR used.
Reply:Let me put it this way....    I got this gun new in '72. It's been used hard. It got used yesterday. 'Nuff said Attached Images

Reply:That settles it. I have had IR in the past and know what they cost. I will use mine moderately, home auto work, stuff like that. So I was hoping there would be a decent moderately priced one out there that wasn't $300. I tried a cheapo already and melted it so that is why I need a better one. So I will pony up and get an IR probably used off Ebay since I am always fighting with the wife over tools vs. house budget. I know, that is a whole other issue! I am finding the 232C for about $120 on ebay. I was also looking at the 2132G (Quiet Tool). Which of the those is better? I don't need to get anymore elaborate than these as long as they are solid IR and not just with the IR name on them. Thanks.Daniel 5:23
Reply:I've never seen a dead IR.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:I agree with TEK though.. i can't speak about the quality of the new CP's or IR's but I have a CP734 that my grandfather (was a diesel mechanic) used and bought new 20 or 30 years ago. Still works like a champ. Attached Images

Reply:I was just on http://www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com...-3666173F7741} and saw an Ingersoll Rand 500 ft.lb. 1/2 in wrench for $104 - close to your requirement.  I have not done business with them so this is not a recommendation - just information.Last edited by slowflyer; 03-04-2008 at 11:46 AM.
Reply:I agree with getting an IR

Reply:I've had blue point.snap-on,ingersall,they all did me right.I had a 3/8's blue point that snapped 1/2" bolts all the time, but the 1/2" drive b.p was kind of a sissy though, but it did all right I guess the ingersoll had no problems with it .had plenty of torque and ran till the day I had to sell it to moveDDOGIf it's too . get an office jobLincoln wp225g7 Lincoln 250 idealarcFrankenstein O/A set-up Weld-tech  tig set-upLincoln sp 175 plus profax  arc gouger

Reply:I know you guys are not going to like this answer, but I work on military vehicles ALOT. I picked up one of the horrible freight 1" drive impacts and use it all the time. 1200 ft lbs on and 1400 ft lbs off. When you have a truck with 10 wheels, these are awesome. I'm sure there are better brands, but this one has lasted 2 years with out fail. There are adapters to reduce the size drive. I only throw this out because someone said too little torque will suck. I agree.
