I have been trying to get an idea of what large tanks are worth as I have 3 to sell. Lws stores airgas and praxair won't give me a quote for full size tanks just the 4 foot ( something about having an account? ). The tanks are past their dates too. What is a fair price for an empty oxygen tank?
Reply:out of date and empty those tanks won't be worth much since the new owner would need to pay for testing and fill. Where are you located ?

Reply:Thanks I think I will give that a shot
Reply:Or find a testing facility, get them tested, and get them filled when you need them filled... if you can find someone to fill them. My LWS which is now Praxair fills my 244 and 330 without blinking.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Thanks that is good to know. I have one more oxygen that still has pressure. Good to know that someone will refill them. I ended up finding a guy with a welding supply shop that will pay 100 per tank if everything works out. I think i am going to take him up on it and be happy they are out of the way.
Reply:As long as you get what you need out of the deal.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:I should make the money I bought them for and then some. There is still the thought that I could make more still lingering.
Reply:Do they have smooth collars on them or a company name?If they are smooth you could get a lot more with a current test date. I've sold 244cf for $275 down here though I had them tested, painted, and filled.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:One is a smooth collar, one is burdett ( out of business i think bought out by airgas or praxair) and the other is airco ( out of business too I think). I would be nice to get more but I would hate to get stuck with tanks I couldn't move too. It seems like some places want papers of ownership and all kinds of other non sense or they won't refill and then some dont care at all.
Reply:Yeah, sometimes it is better to take the quick money and move on. Different parts of the country treat cylinders differently.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Sell em to the wind chime people! Heck they snatch them up faster than any welder.
Reply:I once purchased 8 oxygen bottles @ $35 each with current dates. I sold 4 of them the others were 330cf and a 250 which I then exchanged for argon, mixed, oxygen and helium. I had about 50 bottles in stock at one time but I made a killing selling them off on craigslist for $200-250, The 60cf I find all the time and sometimes I get them free which I exchange then sell for $100. |
