I'm currently having problems getting a 1/8" 6011 root pass right on 30 degree beveled plates with a 1/8" land at 1G, 2G and 3G positions. Its either I get excessive penetration or little to no penetration. I am having a hard time getting the current settings right since our school uses an old AC welding machine with only a turner to adjust the current settings without a meter to tell you what the amperage is. I've been practicing for 9 days already and still I cant get it right. Please help Last edited by JWelder22; 11-20-2014 at 08:08 PM.
Reply:I've played with it a little bit. What brand of 6011 are you using? I've had the best luck with Hobart's 335A 6011. Attached ImagesDon’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Are you butting up the pieces ???   Use a 3/32'' or 1/8'' gap. remember 6010 and 6011 are fast freeze rods. They will provide you better control for going in and out of the puddle. With a hot machine you should be able to go in and out of puddle to allow momentary cooling without breaking the arc. This post will help for sure. Take time to watch the videos.
Reply:With any infinite amp control welder, you have no reason to not be able to set your heat (amperage) properly. I'm guessing your not able to recognize yet if your heat is set correctly. That comes with experience. You just need some.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
