oxy/acety tank mounts

I just finished up my flatbed, and got welder mounted. I purchased a mega cab dodge dually and picked up a flatbed that I shortened and then installed. The bed I bought used was a 9.5 footer and I took 2 foot out. To make a long story short I need to mount my tanks and was wanting to see what some of you guys did to mount your tanks. I need to mount an argon tank also. Im not sure if you can lay those down horizontally and still be functional. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.Shake and Bake
Reply:I would do what I did, cut the body and mount them low, so your not busting your balls lifting them on the deck. If you search you can see what I did. I don't know what your line of work is so I can't give you that much. I am not a pipeliner, I do lots of equipment repair, and if you see my truck it is what fire me.......at this point in time.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I will do a search, I am doing mainly equip. repair also and on site fab work. My LWS has a ramp that you can back up on to load/unload cylinders and roll them right off the bed so I was kinda leaning towards mounting them horizontal. Will an argon bottle work in the horizaontal possition without damaging guages or causing any hazards to equip.Shake and Bake
Reply:Argon, oxygen, mixed gas all work fine layed down, I had my MAPP tanks on a 45 for years with no issues. The only thing that needs to be upright is acetylene, and straight CO2.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Second the mounting down low. You've got a bed space problem with that mega cab so I would look into mounting them similar to mine or at least some of them. Reply:are they to be used from the bed, or are they on a cart?maybe make a small hydraulic lift gate so you can let machine do the work up/down from the deck.do you have free space under the deck in front of passenger side rear wheels? if so then maybe put some "notches" in the deck and make a small platform underneath for the tanks to sit on? sky's the limit here.

Reply:Don't just cut holes in the bed and mount it down into them. You will regret that ever time you change bottles.
