And cut a couple of corners on these sign brackets.Once you see it it'll be obvious. What did I do, or not do.Aside from finish them, this is really just about the scroll work.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]

Reply:I wish I could cold bend scrolls like that....*** If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish

Reply:Nice ! Post a pic with the sign. Is that 1/4''x 1 1/2'' ?  Nice design.
Reply:I noticed the scrolls, however I was going to say you didn't sand all the mill scale off.  I have to make 700 scrolls to bend. Scrolls to match a previous job.

Reply:I got the gussets up today. Now all that's left is to paint the sign and hang it.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]

Reply:Looks great.
Reply:Looks great, and one of my older blacksmith buddies at work tells me all the time, don't ever feel like your cheating Mike, the steels of today are different, it was easier to shape and form wrought iron and forge welding it was cake. He's right, and one off projects for yourself are a different story, I like to go about them old school, but as far as mass production these days you really have no choice. Esp. for a business. Minus a few older Europeans, nobody knows the difference, and would be willing to pay for time and labor, and foremost appreciate the craft. Great job, came out perfect! Reply:I believe the only use of wrought iron these days due to its scarcity is, bridge gangs use wrought wire for twisting and tying rebar together before a concrete pour. Due to being able to hold its tensile strength while still being malleable. Forgot that part in my last post. Anyway, your job came out sweet I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:That turned out super. They are gonna love the scrolls. They could hang all sorts of stuff from them to sell.

Reply:I looked at this real quick before going out the door yesterday (had to go to Stillwater to take some stuff over to the consignment auction for Saturday), and it killed me to see the final installationI suppose it's a structural thing, but the small columns from ground to scrollwork killed the aesthetic thing BIGTIME.  I'm sorry you had to do that to comply with code, or for strength reasons.  It really took away from the beauty of the scrollwork.  I really like your scrollwork."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I found, realistically, the clients rarely notice details like that. We do, for sure. But they are looking at the "landscape" not the "trees". On jobs like this where the margins aren't great, the extra mile isn't worth the effort/ cost to the client. Happy client= a good job done! 3/8" is in heat up territory to get those terminal curls. There is always the "cheat" of zipping off a bit of the end, so the straight bit is shorter and putting in a lolly-pop!  They make a nice cheap cheat and the clients think it's a "special" detail! 200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.Originally Posted by BD1That turned out super.
