Would like some feedback from you guys here.Decided to use some 4043 3/32 since I didn't have anything larger than 1/16th in 5356Started with a cracked transmissionDrilled some holes to relieve the stress and so the cracks do not spread. Next is a wire wheel and propane torch and wire wheel and torch and cleaning the crap out of it. Tack welded a few places so it didn't move.Didn't take many pics, but I did make more holes than that. Then I did V groove the cracks with grinding wheel. Then after MULTIPLE passes. Then even MORE passes. This job will end up using about a pound of filler rod.And for tomorrow I'll continue. Will grind the weld out, weld again. Drill on the inside, clean, grind, v groove, clean, weld, grind, weld, grind. Hoping to have this done tomorrow, total time will be around 4 hours.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Good heavens THAT'S ALOT OF ROD! Why didn't you just jack up the dirt off the thing, slip a new bellhousing under it and drop that dirt right on back down?!?!?!
Reply:Just kidin' you could explode the whole clutch or torque converter in there and not worry about that breaking apart!
Reply:I wish it was that easy! The bell housing doesn't exactly unbolt from the case. It's all once piece. I did use a ton of rod, but i'm going to grind it down and go back over it. And see how it looks.I almost crapped when I was drilling one of the holes all the way through because the crack was all the way through; only about 1/8" hole and I once it broke through the other side I heard a nice "crack" and it wanted to move; thats' why I tacked it in place. lolGoing to sleep, stay tuned for more tomorrow.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:One of those "Oh S***" moments where you don't even want to turn it over and look. The sound said it all!!!
Reply:What ever happened to drop the drive shaft, yank the top loader and drop the housing??? Ah, the 60s. I remember them fondly!
Reply:Cleaned it up with a flap wheel and did a die grinder on the inside. Here is where it sits now and I'm done with it. I could do more, but he isn't paying very much at all so this is what he is getting. I think it will hold pretty well.He didn't clean the part at all and left it full of fluid and it spilled all over the table. Here is how it is.What would you guys charge for something like this?I used a fair amount of consumables and it was about 3 hours in total. Give or take a bit. Had to go back to my place a few times because I kept forgetting things and this thing was too heavy for my table.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
