I current have a Lincoln Ranger 250 GXT. It does have CC/CV capabilities and a remote out. I want a durable wire feeder than won't get destroyed in the back of my truck. I've been running my Hobart 190 off the 220v outlet on my machine but it's falling apart from living in the back of a work Truck. I want to be able to control voltage from the wire feeder. It looks like my only rugged option I have is the Miller 12rc for a suitcase indestructible wire feeder. From what I can tell the Activ8 doesn't allow voltage adjustment remotely. What exactly is needed to control the voltage at the feeder? Looking for 100-150' lead from my Ranger. Reply:The older S-22 p-12 feeders are remote control and some, not most have voltage adjustment on the feeder. Seeing you have a Lincoln welder the miller feeders may not work. I believe the 14 pin connector has wires in different spots and the voltage is probably different. I believe Lincoln makes a LN-25 model that is both across the arc or remote capable. A long control cable will be pricey. Personally I would use a vs feeder and learn to live with it.
Reply:Nothing wrong with the 12RC, its a good machine. The cord is going to be a bit ridiculous, price wise, but thats your call. The biggest problem I think you will have is the voltage drop over 150' of lead. I know with a Vantage 300, it can be intense, and pulls the machine pretty hard, especially if it is 150' of lead & 150' ground. Get the new Miller 210, it will run anything, its super tough, and is not that much more than a 12rc + cable. Its no power house, but if a Hobart 190 was good enough, you'll be satisfied.Constant Current Weldor.
Reply:And good luck trying to find a used feeder. Word on the street is that some butt hole has been going around and steeling them. So if you find any, don't tell anyone but me."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Thanks for the response guys. Really was hoping to get one with the voltage adjustment on the feeder. Didn't realize how much more expensive it would be. That's really the only way I would buy one. Whenever I'm 150' from my machine I'd hate to have to walk back and forth to adjust it up and down.  Originally Posted by DavidbrownNothing wrong with the 12RC, its a good machine. Reply:I have enjoyed having my LN 25. I got it used and cheap. One caution on buying one, make sure you get it with a gas valve and contactor, as adding things to one is very expensive. Also, if you get a feeder, they can get heavy fast, especially if you are running MIG, and have a large wire spool in it. I usually use mig, and just put a QD on the bottle, and only use 10 pound spools to help keep the weight down.
