Hi all. Just a few months ago I landed a job for the city of Columbus here in Ohio as a welder for the public utilities department. Love the life of a Boilermaker, but the lack of work and the constant travel to get it was getting old. I'm grateful for this job since it gets me back home.Anyway, enough of the boring stuff. Thought I'd post a pic of the weld/fab shop that I now preside over.I'll post pics of some of the equipment in a few minutes or tomorrow (I'm no pro at getting the pics off my phone to the laptop). Reply:Hey, I applied for that job! I didn't go though with the second part of the deal after reading all the stick welding questions on the written test. I am a Tig welder that likes to mig. I don't do enough stick to be close to keeping up with guys that do it all day. I was afraid of waisting another half day of vacation. It's cool to see the shop! I will be down town this coming week though, I am a pyro tech on Red, White, and Boom. We start setting up on Sunday. Nice to see someone so close to home on the WW, good luck with your new gig!Last edited by atari; 06-27-2013 at 10:58 PM.(Home)Miller Maxstar 152 (sold)MM211/spool gunLincoln AC 225C(Work)Dynasty 350Powcon 300STLincoln SP-175TWeldlodgic AWS150sWeldlodgic AWS300Custom Resistance seam weldersCambridge Vacuum EB weldersI smell something burning.

Reply:I'm not sure really. I don't think they told us. We just showed up and took the test. It's super cool to see the shop, I still work for Honeywell intl in Hilliard Been there 13 years. I run the welding dept now. It all works out in the end. I was just seeing what was out there really. I have a pretty good job for the most part. Although, I can't post pictures of my shop, they frown that kind of thing.(Home)Miller Maxstar 152 (sold)MM211/spool gunLincoln AC 225C(Work)Dynasty 350Powcon 300STLincoln SP-175TWeldlodgic AWS150sWeldlodgic AWS300Custom Resistance seam weldersCambridge Vacuum EB weldersI smell something burning.
Reply:These guys are pretty laid back. It's cool you get to be part of the pyro team for Red, White & Boom. As close to Columbus as I've always lived, I've never seen the city's fireworks. I sure will this year, though. The utility employees get access to the plant parking lot, so at least I know I'll have a place to see them.Be safe on the job there, my friend.JeremyMiller XMT-3502 Lincoln Power Mig 140C (One w/ dedicated spoolgun)Jackson NexGen / Miller Digital EliteMiller S32P SuperWeldcraft 17fv & 9fv Tig TorchVictor & Purox O/ALincoln Ranger 9Fairly Cold Beer!!
Reply:Nice shop, looks like your predecessors took pride in keeping it neat and organized.
Reply:Congratulations on the new digs. I can't believe they don't contract out all that type of work these days. Reply:Is that tig filler rack made of steel? I have to make up a whole new filler system for my machine and have been thinking to go with the normal pvc tubes. I have noticed a contamination problem lately with the steel tubes I have now.

Reply:Looks like a nicely and thoughtful laid out shop! Did the previous guy just retire?
