Some of you saw my lathe and mill I recently got: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=285861In addition to cherry picker, pry bars, chains, etc I needed to bring to get them, I needed equipment dollies.I grabbed a leftover stick of tubing and some casters and here is the result. Most of the time my "projects" are because I need something now - thus kinda thrown together and no paint.  But they work  Dave J. Reply:"Get the most for the least" is often the plan    The build method: mark a line on the saw table, cut-flip-cut-flip-cut-flip.....etc... was super fast without waste.Rip off my design?  That's high praise from other welders Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Dave, those are fantabulous!  99% of my projects are of the "need it now" variety also.Where'd you get the casters though, and what weight are they?Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
Reply:Thanks   I get the casters at a local surplus store - big box of them.Super overkill at 1000 lbs each and recently about $6 each if memory serves.  Sometimes they are only $4.  I always have a few around - seem to come in handy fairly often.  A few of these I cut off other random stuff Dave J.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 06-30-2013 at 04:48 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Nice!"super overkill" material, "need it now" production, "get the most for least" engineering! You're talking my language! You should consider buying those casters up and ebaying them,  I can't find stuff like that around here for that price, and I look hard.  Even the "value priced" Mauler casters at M-C are $25+, not including shipping.Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....

Reply:Nice work Dave! Unfortunately I can't do 60 degree cuts on my bandsaw But I would have screwed, not welded the casters. On the few occations I welded casters they often get too hot and the lubricant starts to boil and evaporate.
Reply:Thanks Pete These were cut on a low cost Jet band saw.  The 30 degree "swing" gives you a 60 degree cut piece of metal. The scale starts at 0 degrees when it really should start at 90 degrees.Think of your high school geometry - complimentary angles (I've never screwed on casters - too much time involved LOL)Dave J.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 07-01-2013 at 11:59 AM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:MinnesotaDave"'slithy' means 'lithe and slimy'  . . . .
