Today, I went out and bought a Jancy USA 5 mag drill, for a job starting tomorrow morning, its got a 2 3/8" diameter capacity and will drill up to 3" deep. A 2 speed unit with 175 and 350 rpm settings, a incredible magnet rated at 2300# dead lift and it weighs about 51#.Jackhttp://www.jancy.com/index.cfm?fusea...t&productid=62 Attached Images
Reply:Those are really nice, what a great new toy!John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I think you'll like it.I have about the twin to it, been really happy with it.Seems like it's labeled "USA 500" or something.Good Luck
Reply:That's a good drill.  We repair a lot of those at my office.  The bits are expensive but remember that you can have them sharpend unless a tooth breaks.
Reply:I once put a mag drill on a 1/4" inch plate and was very surprised when the magnet dislodged and shattered the 13/16" bit. Scared the he11 out of me. My foreman told me you have to mount it on 3/8"s or thicker.
Reply:Never used a Jancy but I used to have a Milwaukee. It would latch on to about anything that was flat. If I let some cuttings get under the base when moving it around I could pop the magnet loose but if everything was clean it was stuck until you turned off the switch.
Reply:One trick on 1/4" plate is to put another piece of 1/4" plate under the work piece under the magnet.  This gives it something else to "hold on to".  Just remember not to to put it under the cutter because a lot of the cutters will not stack cut.
