Lincoln ranger 8 . Help me spank this gas tank

I just got a ranger  8 from my uncle.   It had been sitting up two years.  He swears it had been running and welding fine before. I downloaded the manual and tried to look around online but am still having trouble.It has the kohler 18hp engine.What's the best way to get the tank off to clean the old gas out?Other than new plugs and new filters, gas and oil what else should I consider to get it running great again?Thanks for reading and taking time to reply
Reply:If the tank had old gas then most likely the carburetor will need to be cleaned or replaced too.Capt Ron
Reply:Thank's Capt-Ron.   I will definitely give the carb a look over too.Anyone know how to remove the gas tank?
Reply:Rustydog by looking at the diagrams you may have to almost completely disassemble the welder. It looks to me like it is buried under the engine and generator. I would try to run some carb cleaner through it first.Ypop1

Reply:I  would either drain it or see if one can pump it dry it there gas still in it, and put a good filter in line,
Reply:Seven years and no one chimed in.  This happened today.  Now I have to figure out how to get the tar out of the tank bottom. Anyone have ideas that will not ruin the plastic tank but get the tar looking deposits out?  Laquer thinner does not cut it, but aceton does.   This ranger 8 has 77 hours on it.  Runs like a champ from a separate fuel tank.  The copper fuel tank dip tube had a hole rotted in it as well, that is easy to replace.
Reply:I had to do that to my Trailblazer to rebuild the broken mounting holes.Have you tried some gas?

Reply:Rob, that is exactly what I used.  First I used a pressure washer on the insides.  The gun wand (barrel) was not letting it get very far through the gauge and fuel line hole.  Took an extra gun wand and bent a 90 in it and wow, it really rinsed out a lot of tar.  After a few more high pressure washes I dumped 96 ounces of Berryman Carb and parts cleaner in there.  I agitated it every half hour or so yesterday and it sat overnight.  I just now finished dumping the Berryman back into its gallon can (you know, the gallon can with the lift out basket) and then pressure washed it to rinse.  Spotless inside!!!
