On the rare occasion I need to silver braze a piece of brass, I find the flux has dried up. I end up buying another one of those cheap packages just to to get the flux. Currently I have 3 rolls and Home Depot no longer carries these packages. The silver braze melting point is somewhere around 1200 degrees. The flux came in the form of white paste but now it's in the form of...white gravel. Don't know if it's water soluble. Is it possible to re-hydrate this flux? Reply:Put water in it and mix it up. Add water unitl you get the consiastancy you want.
Reply:Hot water should do the trick.
Reply:Here's a tip: If your going to try hydrating this type of flux in a bowl or the like...make sure you tell your wife what your up to, otherwise she'll likely rinse out the bowl and stick it in the dishwasher like mine did. Oh well, got some dipping flux from my buddy...crises averted."Steel is weak.
