Hi, I am new to this forum. Im a farm welder and do ok at it. My question is whether I should get a used 200 or a new 180 mig. I have a lincoln 350 tig, which does stick and tig. what I was looking for was something for sheet metal and thinner stuff. I am thinking the 180 is a bonus with the weight of 81 pounds vs. the 530 of the 200. But I have heard so many good things about the 200 That i wonder if I would be better off getting it. I really never know what I am going to come up against as far as welding goes, I might be doing larger stuff in the future. I have the 200 lined up for $800, which is the price of the 180. I would also guess the `180 being more modern is easier to use, but that may be a misconception on my part. I have done a little mig in the welding class I took, but we mostly did stick and tig.thanks for any info you can shed on this.
Reply:personally i would feel better if i had a new welder.BUT, if the 200 is in decent condition and the price is right then it might not be a bad choice. and like you said, you never know what you might run into so it would be nice to have the little extra power.matthttp://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:How old is the 200 and is it the original owner. How well did he or she(ha ha) take care of it. New is nice. Wish I could sell you mine and up to the mm212 or the MM252. I would save some money and get the MM212 or the HH210. Hobart is made buy Miller. The miller unit can have the MIG gun and the Spool Gun hooked up at the same time. If you don't need that then get the HH210 or the Hobart Ironman210. I'm not a Hobart guy so you should ask the Hobart guys which one is better.JamesDrag Racing is for Fast Cars. Reply:Does the MM 200 have the optional spot/pulse welding panel? Would both machines have the same capability for thin stuff per the specs? Do you have the serial number of the 200? There were a number of variations in the series and that will tell you whether it's an old or new one. I have the breakdown somewhere. |
