Do I want this welder? its free

My buddy who has a fab shop offered me a Linde square wave heliarc machine for free, he said he couldn't remember if it ran or not but said it had been sitting up for a long time but looked very good . He didn't give the mod # but said it was a 250 amp, 30 or 32 volt, 60% duty cycle, single phase machine. I wonder if its a rectifier or transformer? Is this machine worth fooling with? with the possibility of needing repair. Any help from you guys would be appreciated.

Reply:take the damn thing dude!!!!!! if u dont then you shouldnt be part of this welding site haha just kidding but yea take a look at the cable's so see if there rotted and if they then u should replace them and hey ask ur buddy ifu can plug it in at his shope before u take it home

Reply:WIDETRACKMAN,    i suggest you remove the access panelon the back of the machine. you will find thewiring diagram there. this is where i suggest you start. you may not need an operators manual. you should be able to hook it intoyour system, and at least see if it will run.good luck with your projects.wlbrown

Reply:Linde machines were top of the line in their day. You got a bargain. Now have fun with it.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:if it dosent work ask your mate if he minds if you sell if for scrap as there would be a fairbit of copper in it.
