I think I am in need of a cold saw. I cut lots of 1-3/4" round tube and 1"-2" sq. tubing (mainly more 1" than anything else). I have a chop saw and a fairly nice grizzly band saw that I have never had any trouble with. Most of my cuts are different sizesso I cant bundle them together in the bandsaw. It is a slow process cutting them one at a time and I hate the chop saw due to the dust, sparks, and noise. I want a cold saw in the price range of about 2 grand. Here is what I have found and I would like to know which one you would purchase one why. The Hyd-Mech is a proven name but dosent look as heavy duty as the Baileigh Cold saw, But I am afraid It I get the Baileigh then I might loose quality of the machine since it is made in Tiawan. Here arethe two that I have found that fits my requirments.the Hyd-Mech P250http://www.vansantent.com/Saws/Hyd_Mech_coldsaws.htmIt has a 10" blade and a 1hp motor. cuts 2-3/4" round tube @ 90 degrees and 2-1/2" @ 45 degrees. sq. tube is 2-1/4" at 90 and 2" at 45. It is made in ITALY. miters to right onlynext is the Baileigh CS-315Mhttp://cgi.ebay.com/Baileigh-CS-315M...742.m153.l1262It has a 12.6" blade and can cut 3.5" round tube at 90 and 45 degrees. The head miters to the left and right. It has a 3 hp motor. Made in tiawain. So any one used either brand. The baileigh is tempting to buy because the saw miters both ways, has bigger motor, and can saw larger tubing (which is always good for the future). The only thing I am scared of is the quality of that brand. Anyone heard of this brand, know the quality of the saw?So if it was you buying the saw which would you go with. Both are from the same store (vansant ent.). I called them and talked to a sales rep and he said the Hyd-mech was a good saw and I would be disapointed on it,he also said he did not know about the quality of the other saw since they just started selling them.ThanksRyan

Reply:Get one with at least a 300mm blade, it sucks when you can't cut all the way through something. I have an old Marathon witha 315mm blade cuts through 4" square tubing easy.Tim Beeker.
Reply:I have the grizzly 5 x 7 bandsaw that has a 60 degree mitering head. I saw the grizzly cold saw but this time I want something a little better. Dont get me wrong, grizzly makes nice tools for the money. The more I think about it, the more I think I am going to get the Baileigh.

Reply:I can tell you from experience, get the biggest blade that you can.I have one with a 14" blade on it and it is great. I have worked with the 10" ones, and there is always something that you can't do.With a budget of 2000, you should be able to get a great saw with a big blade.
