Made this step for a buddies tent trailer. TIG welded the corners(outside) and the feet pads. MIG welded everything else. Note to self: put washers in between legs and frame next time, had a hell of a time with the legs binding up when folding in and out. Ended up bending the angle metal out so the legs can fold up. My buddy has a wood shop at home and is making a nice stained wooden top to step on. He originally wanted an expanded metal top but they have 4 Chiwawa's and their toe nails would have got caught up in that. I think he has plans for some of that non slip tape for the top also. I'm getting a little better at TIG one weld at a time. Enjoy the pics...... Attached Images

Reply:Your getting so good at this TIG welding, I can't even see where the welds are in the pix. Looks like they are just cut out and placed in the clamps for welding.OOPS, looks like you slipped in some finished pix while I was posting on the first set. Still looks good, even though now I can see something resembling welds.Last edited by Bistineau; 07-15-2013 at 03:09 PM.

Reply:Nice design and nice execution! For the anti skid you can also get some 100 grint or courser wet or dry sand paper and use 3M #77 contact adhesive to attach it. You can cut letters and designs and those can become the anti skid as well as your name or "Welcome". I do it on aircraft wing walks and such. I find it holds up to weather as well as the store bought tape.Another alternative is to lay down a heavy wet coat of finish and sprinkle either "flint sand" (white) or pulverized coal slag blast media (Black) into the wet surface and let that dry in. Once the surface is dried sweep away the excess. This works well on basement stairs too!RogerOld, Tired, and GRUMPYSalesman will call, Batteries not included, Assembly is required, and FREE ADVICE IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAY FOR IT!Dial Arc 250HFThunderbolt 225 AC/DCAssorted A/O torches
Reply:That's looking great, very clean welds. Great that it's foldable, very handy. Great job!
Reply:for cheap non skid sweep up some grinder dust off the floor and mix it in with paint or varnish of poly or whatever you use to coat the step with. Kills two birds with one stone .cleans the shop floor and keeps ya from slipping.
Reply:Great looking project. richey
Reply:Great idea, I might have to steal that idea from you. I do like the idea of using some verbage of Welcome, or in my case "Go Away".I like the outdoors, just don't care for everyone trampling thru my trailer.---No good deed goes unpunished--- |
