DIY Covered Wagon Bike Trailer

Hello everyone!  I posted this on a camping relating forum, but I thought I’d share here too.  Here are pictures of my latest project.My son’s Cub Scout pack is heading on an overnight biking/camping trip next month. To carry all the gear for a family of four (sleeping bags, hammocks, cooking gear, etc.), I decided to make a new bike trailer. Reply:Looks cool!I've been kicking around some modifications to my old bike trailer. Did you use steel for it or aluminum?
Reply:I used steel - mostly 3/4" square tube.  I have all the equipment for aluminum (spool gun, 100% argon, etc.), but I just don't have the skill/patience yet to weld proficiently with aluminum.  Maybe the next one will be made from aluminum. :-)

Reply:Since my fat arse can only bike at 10mph or so, everyone will likely be in front of me, thereby reducing the chance of pileups and other mayhem. :-) :-)
Reply:I should have also added that all critical components (the bottom chassis and the arm that connects to the bicycle) were borrowed from a commercial kiddie trailer.  The link to the full build photos show what I started with.

Reply:Cool project. One thing you should add is a gas lift strut like you find on car hoods (cheap on ebay). Mount it with careful placement of the pivot point so that it pushes open AND closed then you don't really even need a latch. How trick would that be?Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
