Reply:A lot probably depends on what you are trying to sell. Small craft type projects, flea markets or yard sales are a possibility. I've sold some small items by word of mouth. Some of my customers for things like horse shoe coat hooks and things like that, see ones I made for their friends etc and then contact me when my number gets passed along..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Try marketing your business on google,if you build a proper website (even mine isn't that great)try www.wix.commarketing with a plan is important, I realized how much you need to put in effort to get work if your paying for a shop,my rent and insurance for my business is 30k a yearit will take you years to make a good marketing plan and make contacts but eventually it will take off,I don't do any industrial work and never will, and marketing to the public is probley a much different deal than doing the industrial work. All Good or Bad luck runs out, Planning is the key to selling anything, attempting to build things and THEN SELL them is usually ineffective, how do you know people even want what you are making?that alone takes experimentation. If your making things to learn skills don't expect them to sell just have fun and learn.essentially your goal should be to figure out something you can make that people are going to commision you to build, something that can become a bread and butter item and then once you have this going it will expand into all types or things and contacts and ect.http://www.forgingtechnology.com/
Reply:I really just invisioned making a piece and then selling it but I guess that doesnt work very well especially when I dont have a sales outlet. I like doing accent pieces.RG_______________________Hobart 187Northern Tool Plasma 375Harris 85 O/A Rig (Ireland)
Reply:Remember that old saying “different strokes for different folks”.If you make things that are useful or others want it, you sell them.  It’s better to have someone come to you and say I want this and you make it then making a bunch of widgets and no one wants them. If not its just wall art for you.
Reply:X2 on what court jester said. find the market before you make the product. stock on hand means nothing if it just sits there. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Who you market to and how you go about marketing really depends on what it is you are making and the level of craftsmanship you are realizing in your projects. I don't sell stuff that I make, but from other transactions I've had with craigslist and the like, I've found that most people on there are looking for used stuff to get a good deal on, myself included. That doesn't really lend itself well to people paying top dollar for one off items. If you are making home décor pieces, try taking some high quality pictures that display them in the way they will be used. Make a portfolio of the stuff you've made to show interior designers, make a basic website and post your portfolio, contact information and basic information about yourself and business. Spend $25 on some business cards with your company name, contact info and website on it and hand them out to people who would be likely to buy some of the type of stuff you make. If you are looking to make a long term business out of this, imo, it is better to build a BRAND than it is to market a PRODUCT, that may seem like splitting hairs, but there is a distinct difference. When you market a product, people buy it because they like the product. When you build a brand, people come to you looking for a product that they don't even know if you have, but could make for them.Powcon 400SM2-PD60 wire feedersMiller XR controlAlumapro push/pull gunSpeedglas 9100xBFH

Reply:When I lived in an "Artsy Resort Town". I could sell almost anything in my front yard for what ever price the Market could bare! Sometimes they would ask  for specific items more to their tastes, then I would build two or three as described and put them out. Usually all sold anyways. Now I live in a more rural setting and make my hobby money fixing stuff for the neighbors and a few select friends.Tip on website names - use a name that starts with the letter "A". Reason is when you GOOGLE a product the places names come up alphabetically, hence why the local garage name starts with "Advance"
