Who here uses them? I've been working on a project lately that didn't always have a good spot for the ground clamp. From the videos I've seen, these magnetic grounds look like just the thing. I'm currently looking at the 200 amp version for my Maxstar 150s.Your thoughts? My name's not Jim....
Reply:they work excellent in my opinion I have 2 of them, I kept the big one when I sold my 302 g and also a 200 amp that I would use on a portable table for stick and tig. They are costly but worth it again in my own opinion.
Reply:I actually didn't think the price was that bad. Cyberweld has the 200 amp for $27 and the 300 amp for $36. A good spring clamp costs almost that much. What's kept me from going with magnets in the past is their tendency to attract shavings. Looks like these will shed all the shavings when you turn them off.My name's not Jim....
Reply:I use the 200 amp version quite a bit at work. I have bolted a piece of copper on the lug to attach the machine ground clamp to. Only problem I have had with it is wondering what I left it stuck to last!
Reply:I have one. It's very nice for welding on large items that you can't get a traditional clamp on. They're also good for getting a work lead connection close to the area your welding. Think welding on vehicles...Clean them with a stainless steel wire brush. Knocks the filings off without sticking the brush to the magnet.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:I've used them with good results. I have even used the cheapo ones and they work but not as well as the switch style.
Reply:My 200 amp magswitch showed up today. I gave it a try on my Maxstar 150s. It seems to work as advertised. The thing is tiny though. My name's not Jim....

Reply:Here is a trick I use to pick up metal filings. Put a baggie over it! then just pull the baggie off and the metal falls off the baggie.Course it insulates it from the metal - minor detail

Reply:I was talking to a Magswitch rep and he said they're coming out with a new grounding clamp in 2015. The issue that I encountered with mine is that the magnet inside burned up when I didn't attach it to a clean metal. The new grounding clamps will be a lot more resistant. When they're available they should be listed here on the Magswitch site: http://magswitch.com.au/product-category/ground-clamps/ |
