Reply:Where did you see that price? Online or at the LWS?My research has only returned good things about the TA 185. The only downside I have EVER heard is it could run 7018 a little better. As a TIG unit everyone I have heard from loves it.'Mike
Reply:Used mine today. Its an awesome machine that delivers more than it promises. Yeah, it could run 7018 better.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:This last week I used two different Miller Big 50 welders and these machines had slightly different arcs from on another. So when I come home and use my TA 185 for stick, I can tell you I am not missing a thing. The arc from an inverter seems a little different neither better or worse just a little different. I do believe the TA 185 may be a little more picky on the type of rod when it comes to 7018, so you may have try using different brands. I managed to bring home about 5 lbs of Lincoln Excaliber 7018 1/8 rod and so I will give them a try this weekend. JayO

Reply:I agree with the others, the tig arc is really great, 7018 can be tough. The air cooled tig torch gets Hot --it will need to take a break before you do.
Reply:I just sold the last of the 3, I had, its a great machine, I sold them to help finance a Miller Dynasty 350. I ran a lot of 7018 with mine with little problem, for some reason it didn't seem to care for Lincoln Excaliber, but ESAB Atom Arc 7018 ran okay. Its hard to go wrong with the purchase of the TA 185 TSW, durable, lots of features, as long as you are aware of its limitations, its being only a 185 amp machine.Jack |
