The idler arm was pretty far off, dunno if it was because of earlier repairs or what. Doesn't matter I suppose, it's been time to fix it for a long time. It's pretty beat upAt this point I've switched to a plain heating tip, the spot heating tip simply doesn't cover a large enough area. The gas settings (propane) are as follows:This is the beauty of propane...........high withdraw ratesMore to follow................"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:So now it's time to heat the steel.[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9CKhcvH6pE[/ame]You can see that only 3 sides are heated. You need to heat the "bad" side, and the two adjacent sides. The entire top section of the tubing needs to shrink to correct the bow, and it can't shrink unless the sides also shrink to some extent. It came out nicely after 3 shrink cycles along the length of the affected area. And it seems to be right on track.Saved the ol' girl from the scrapyard one more time"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Sure looks like you have it tracking right now. That should really cut down the belt replacement expense.

Reply:OOMPH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Fired the ol' gurl up to see if all was well after getting it all put together. For anybody who's never seen one of these old timers run[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKYqOsiG_dY[/ame]Anyhow, NOT ALL WAS WELL The tracking is still off When the baler was static I didn't realize that there was excessive play in the idler arm bushings. I assumed some play was normal. Well it ain't A small amount of play is magnified over the distance of the arm[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqNuGTqUHmI[/ame]Outside bushing is okBut the inside bushing is worn almost completely through the steel backing. Luckily the backing saved the tubing so it's just a matter of replacing the bushingsTwo Bushings.................SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
