My mm210 welds nice with my .030 4043 filler. But the 5356 has been disappointing at best.I got nice clean shiny 6061 extrusions to practice on, but the 5053 welds are just black boogers. I played with wire speed, voltage and gasflow, but just cant get it. 3035 spool gun too.Any ideas?OzDynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly
Reply:if the 210 is like the 211 it is not designed to run 5356,, only 4043Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:What does 5356 require that 4043 does not? What machine will run marine grade wire?I was hoping some day to build a pre-cut aluminum skiff.OzDynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly

Reply:Picts and settings of both your good and bad welds would help greatly. I've run both wires in my 3035 spoolgun off my MM185 in the past with no major issues. I vaguely remember needing to make some setting adjustments, but it's been so long since I did much alum mig I really can't remember.Things that are important info for alum welds... push vs pull, gas used ( should be 100% argon), wire size and alloy, Material size and alloy, machine used, spoolgun or push pull used, machine settings, approximate wire stick out used when welding... The more info we get the better..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Interesting that the MM185 has 5356 listed but the MM210 does notI know the Mm185 is a misleading name since it is really a 200amp machineEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:It has actually been over a year since i tried the 5356. I was browsing this forum yesterday and it reminded me of the problem i was having. So i dont have pics at this time. What I do know is:100% argon3035 spool gun Always push3/16 6061 extrusions scraps with and without preheat.030 wireWhen you say "stick out" i am not sure what you mean when talking mig. My best guess would be distance from work to gas cup.If I get time tonight maybe i will lay a couple beads down and post some pics.OzDynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly

Reply:Yeah it seems odd, but I've had one of the guys at Miller verify that machine maxes at 200 amps. I think it has to do with how they changed the way they list their machines and such in the manuals. I'd have to actually pull the serial number off my older MM185 to see if the original manual lists top output at 185 amps or 200. I'm pretty sure the amp volt diagram for than machine does show settings at 200 amps..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I have a MM210 and it welds 5356 just fine. Working on a marine project with 5356 right now, in fact. your settings?

Reply:Originally Posted by DirtyOzWell, thats encouraging anyway. Dont remember settings but it seemed like it was 3/16 6061 extrusion I was welding on.  I will hopefully have another go at it tomarrow and will post pics and settings.Indawoods, can you give me your settings and material? Maybe i can replicate that and have some success. Is your supply power 208 or 240v? Do you have the 3035 gun? Thanks Oz
Reply:We have the same set up MM210 with 3035 spoolgun and welds fine with 5356 wire welding 1/8" 5052 plate and 6063 alloy pipe.
Reply:Still didnt get a chance to weld tonight. Wifey got a new laptop so i had to pretend toi know what i was doing when i helped her set it up. 8)Dynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly
Reply:Finally got a chance to mess around a little tonight. Opened a brand new spool of 5356 just to start fresh. Heres a couple of pics. Noticed alot of spatter when i started the beads. It would clean up a bit when i got closer to work but then i zorched the tip a couple times.I didnt have the problems i had a few months ago as stated in the begining of my thread...just some new ones.Again heres my setupMm2103035 spool gun5356 wire20, 25 and 30 cfm argon, didnt seem to make any difference.1/4" 6061 plate1/8" flat with different voltage and wire speed.Dynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly
Reply:voltage/speed?
Reply:I was afraid youd ask me that. Kinda lost track of exactly what was what, but most of them were voltage tap 6 with a speed of 75 to 90. And some at 5 with varying speed as well. I was all over the place trying to eliminate the spatter. As you can see in a few of the beads i held the cup closer towards the end and spatter reduced greatly but also burned back the wire and clogged the tip closed. Just guessing, it seems like im on the threshold between short circuit and spray transfer. Also my cup extends past the tip quite a bit. It came that way. What should it be for AL? And what do you change on the 3035 to adjust it, longer contact tips?..I am not really liking the voltage tap thing very well. Its too low of resolution and should be variable like the 251 is.OzDynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly

Reply:I am definatley melting out when i hold closer to work, which suck because thats when the spatter goes away. You can hear it go to spray transfer right before meltdown. The 2nd pics is some 1/8 angle. Those two beads do have alot of spatter but its more in the haz area. For some reason the left bead in that pic had very little.I need to get some more tips and methodically document all the variables this time.OzDynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly
