Just finished this up in time to give away for a fundraiser auction for the Appalachian Barn Alliance.Factiod: My county has 1 barn for every 1.8 residents. Our population has changed less than 10% since the Civil War. It's a full scale model, with 21" spread, of a set of 14 point non typical (9/5) sheds that my dad found in 1978 when he was fixing fences on the farm where I grew up. Antlers: 1", 3/4", 1/2", and 3/8" textured vine barHead: 16g hot rolled sheet metalNeck: 1-1/4", 1-1/2" sch 40 uncoated pipe, 16g hot rolled sheet metalWall Plaque: 1/2" a36 plate. All of it was ground to 60 grit then clear coated.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
Reply:here's the originalHere it is with it's big brother 23 point. Actually, according to the guy in the white shirt, the taxidermist who did both mounts, a NYDEC biologist claimed both racks were from the same deer. The 23 point was taken, illegally, in 1981 about 1/2 mile from the western edge of my farm. The poacher was caught, arrested and the deer confiscated. NYDEC commissioned the mount, coincidentally, from the same taxidermist who I had (stupidly) sold my 14 point sheds to. Here's the big boy. Known in the capital region of NY as "The Delmar Buck", NYDEC has it at their HQ in Albany.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
Reply:I don't think I'll ever understand why you guys on the east coast and in the midwest and south give yourself so much credit for the point counts... up here we count 1 side, and if the sides differe it's a 4x5 of 6x7 etc. Nice work on the mount though. that's really cool. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:We had someone poach a deer out of a park zoo a couple of years ago. I do think I remember that the poacher was caught but it really takes an idiot to poach from a public zoo. This was in the Kingsport area of Tn.
Reply:If I was to poach from a zoo...I wouldn't be going for any deer, maybe a damn lion
Reply:Nice, man. Really nice.(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah: Go Big Red! (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Very nice, first saw this over at the "campfire" forum.
Reply:That's really cool and awesome. Like the neck and the antlers, very intricate work made. It looks like a cyborg deer. Great job! |
